The story follows Ajay, the son of a powerful underworld figure, who wants to distance himself from his father's criminal world and live an ordinary life. He falls in love with Pooja, but his peaceful life is threatened when his father's enemies target his family.
The film became a blockbuster and established Ajay Devgn as a major Hindi film star. His famous entry sequence, in which he balances between two moving motorcycles, became one of the most memorable debut scenes in Bollywood. Ajay Devgn won the Filmfare Award for Best Male Debut for his performance.
The film centres on Ajay Salgaonkar, played by Ajay Devgn, a young man who wants to live a peaceful and respectable life away from his father's criminal activities.
Ajay's father, Nageshwar Salgaonkar, played by Amrish Puri, is a powerful underworld figure. Ajay strongly dislikes his father's profession and wants nothing to do with his criminal empire.
Ajay concentrates on his studies and college life. During this period, he meets Pooja, played by Madhoo.
Ajay and Pooja gradually fall in love. Their relationship gives Ajay hope that he can build a normal family life away from the violence surrounding his father.
Ajay eventually marries Pooja, and the couple begin their married life together.
However, Ajay's attempt to escape his family's criminal background proves difficult.
Nageshwar has several enemies within the underworld. Shankar Dhanraj, played by Raza Murad, is one of the people involved in the conflict surrounding Nageshwar's criminal empire.
Ajay initially tries to stay away from his father's business, but circumstances eventually force him to confront the dangerous world he had tried to escape.
The situation becomes even more serious when Ajay and Pooja have a son, Gopal.
Nageshwar's enemies decide to use the child as a means of putting pressure on the family. Ajay's infant son is kidnapped, forcing Ajay to take action.
Ajay is now caught between two worlds: the peaceful family life he wants and the violent criminal world inherited from his father.
He sets out to rescue his son and confront the people responsible for the kidnapping.
The film's action sequences then become central to the story as Ajay fights to protect his family.
Through these events, Ajay demonstrates that although he rejected his father's criminal lifestyle, he is prepared to confront danger when the safety of his loved ones is at stake.
The story ultimately becomes a battle between family loyalty, revenge, crime and the desire for a peaceful life.
