Ilaaka is a 1989 Indian Hindi-language action drama film directed by Aziz Sejawal. The film features an ensemble cast including Mithun Chakraborty, Sanjay Dutt, Madhuri Dixit, Amrita Singh, Amrish Puri, Om Puri, Raakhee, and a special appearance by Dharmendra. Released on 12 May 1989, the film became a commercial success and is remembered for its action-packed storyline, powerful performances, and popular music by Nadeem–Shravan.
The story revolves around Raja (Mithun Chakraborty), a brave and honest young man who stands against corruption and injustice in his locality. He is supported by Inspector Suraj Verma (Sanjay Dutt) and Sub-Inspector Neha Singh (Amrita Singh) in their fight against the ruthless crime lord Naagar (Amrish Puri), who controls the entire area through fear and violence.
About the Movie Ilaaka (1989)
Ilaaka presents a gripping tale of courage, justice, friendship, and the struggle against organized crime. Raja, a simple yet fearless man, refuses to bow before the tyranny of Naagar, a powerful gangster who dominates the locality. Inspector Suraj Verma and Neha Singh join Raja in his mission to free the area from corruption and criminal influence.
The film also features Dharmendra in a special appearance as Inspector Dharam Verma, whose past conflict with Naagar adds depth to the narrative. Raakhee appears as Mrs. Dharam Verma, while Om Puri plays Bheema, Raja’s foster father. The supporting cast includes Dalip Tahil, Jagdeep, Johnny Lever, Avtar Gill, Goga Kapoor, Mahesh Anand, and Mac Mohan.
One of the major highlights of the film was its music by Nadeem–Shravan, who were still in the early phase of their successful career. Songs such as “Deva O Deva,” “Khali Botal,” “Pyar Se Bhi Zyada,” and “Aayi Hai Aaj To” became popular among audiences. Playback singers included Kishore Kumar, Asha Bhosle, Mohammed Aziz, Amit Kumar, and Mithun Chakraborty.
