Marte Dam Tak is a 1987 Indian Hindi-language action crime drama directed and written by Mehul Kumar. The film features an ensemble cast led by Raaj Kumar, Govinda, and Farha Naaz, with important supporting performances from Shakti Kapoor, Om Puri, Paresh Rawal, Kulbhushan Kharbanda and Alok Nath. The film's music was composed by Ravindra Jain.
The story follows Sub-Inspector R.B. Rane, played by Raaj Kumar, an honest police officer determined to bring the powerful gangster P.C. Mathur to justice. Before Rane can arrest Mathur, he is falsely implicated in a murder case and sent to prison. After serving his sentence, Rane returns as an underworld figure known as Rana, driven by a personal mission to find Mathur and settle the score.
Govinda plays Jai, a young man who becomes involved in Rana's plan to eliminate Mathur. However, after accidentally killing the wrong person, Jai decides to leave his criminal path behind and take responsibility for the consequences of his actions. His decision brings another emotional dimension to the story as he becomes involved with Mathur's family.Marte Dam Tak combines police drama, crime, revenge and family emotions. At the center of the film is the transformation of Rane from a principled police officer into Rana, a man consumed by revenge after being wrongly punished for a crime he did not commit. His pursuit of P.C. Mathur forms the central conflict of the film.
The film also explores Jai's struggle with guilt and his attempt to move away from violence. After mistakenly killing another man while attempting to carry out Rana's instructions, Jai chooses to care for the victim's family instead of continuing a life of crime. This creates a contrast between Rana's pursuit of revenge and Jai's desire for redemption.
The supporting cast includes Om Puri as Daulat/D.K., Shakti Kapoor as Ricku, Paresh Rawal as Inspector Khanna, Kulbhushan Kharbanda as P.C. Mathur, Alok Nath as Judge Rameshwar Dayal, and Tej Sapru as Sonu.
The soundtrack was composed by Ravindra Jain. Songs associated with the film include “Naam Se Kya Lena,” “Chhodenge Na Hum Tera Saath,” “Muqabla,” “Dheere Dheere Kholungi,” and “Nautak Nautak.” The soundtrack featured prominent playback singers including Kishore Kumar, Mohammed Aziz, Anuradha Paudwal, Mahendra Kapoor, Suresh Wadkar, Shabbir Kumar, Hemlata and Asha Bhosle.
