The story begins in a traditional Indian household headed by Pandit Darbar, a respected classical musician. His daughter Nandini lives with her family and is known for her lively and mischievous personality.
Sameer Rafilini, an Italian-born young man of Indian origin, arrives at the Darbar household to learn Indian classical music from Pandit Darbar. Sameer and Nandini initially tease and irritate each other, but their relationship gradually develops into deep love.
Pandit Darbar strongly opposes their relationship. He wants Nandini to marry Vanraj, a respectable young lawyer. He also asks Sameer to leave India and promises that Nandini will not marry him. Sameer agrees to this as a form of guru dakshina.
Heartbroken, Nandini eventually marries Vanraj.
After their marriage, Vanraj discovers that Nandini is still in love with Sameer. Instead of becoming jealous or forcing her to forget her past, Vanraj decides to help Nandini find Sameer. He takes her to Italy, beginning a long journey in search of the man she once loved.
As Nandini and Vanraj travel through Europe, Vanraj gradually realizes that love is not simply about possessing someone. His selflessness and devotion begin to change Nandini's understanding of their marriage.
When Nandini finally meets Sameer again, she is forced to confront her feelings and the sacrifices made by Vanraj. Ultimately, she recognizes the depth of Vanraj's love and chooses to remain with him.
The film concludes with a powerful message about love, sacrifice, marriage, commitment and selfless devotion.
