Don, also known as Don: The Chase Begins Again, is a 2006 Hindi-language action thriller directed by Farhan Akhtar and produced by Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar under Excel Entertainment. The film stars Shah Rukh Khan in a dual role as the dangerous criminal Don and the ordinary man Vijay, with Priyanka Chopra as Roma and Arjun Rampal as Jasjit.
The film is a modern remake of the 1978 Hindi film Don. It follows Vijay, a simple man who bears a striking resemblance to the wanted international criminal Don. Police officer DCP DeSilva recruits Vijay to impersonate Don after the criminal is seriously injured. However, when DeSilva is killed, Vijay finds himself trapped in the dangerous world of crime, with very few people knowing his real identity.
About the Movie Don (2006)
Don was released on 20 October 2006 during the Diwali festive season. Farhan Akhtar directed and co-wrote the film, while Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar produced it under Excel Entertainment. The screenplay drew from the original Don written by Salim–Javed, while the remake introduced a more contemporary visual and action-oriented style.
The story revolves around the mysterious criminal Don, whose identity becomes central to a police investigation. DCP DeSilva discovers that Vijay looks almost identical to Don and decides to use him as an undercover replacement. Vijay enters the criminal organization while trying to uncover information about the gang, but the plan becomes increasingly dangerous after DeSilva's death.
The film features Shah Rukh Khan, Priyanka Chopra, Arjun Rampal, Boman Irani, Isha Koppikar and Om Puri in important roles. The music was composed by Shankar–Ehsaan–Loy, with lyrics by Javed Akhtar. Popular songs from the soundtrack include “Main Hoon Don,” “Aaj Ki Raat,” “Khaike Paan Banaraswala,” “Yeh Mera Dil” and “Mourya Re.”
The film was released across approximately 800 screens and received a strong response at the domestic box office. Its stylish presentation, action sequences, soundtrack and Shah Rukh Khan's dual performance helped establish it as a successful modern reinterpretation of the classic Don.
