Kamal Barot is a veteran Indian playback singer who made a significant contribution to Hindi cinema during the 1950s and 1960s. Born on 3 November 1938 in Dar-es-Salaam, Tanganyika (present-day Tanzania), Kamal Barot later moved to India, where she pursued her passion for music. From an early age, she showed a keen interest in singing and gradually found opportunities in the Hindi film industry.
Kamal Barot began her playback singing career during the golden era of Bollywood. She worked with many leading music directors and shared the microphone with legendary singers such as Mohammed Rafi, Lata Mangeshkar, Mukesh, Manna Dey, and Mahendra Kapoor. Her voice was particularly appreciated for lively duets and melodious film songs.
One of Kamal Barot’s most famous songs is “Hansta Hua Noorani Chehra” from the film Parasmani (1963), sung alongside Lata Mangeshkar.
