Tirangaa is a Hindi patriotic action-drama film directed and produced by Mehul Kumar. The film stars Raaj Kumar, Nana Patekar, Harish Kumar, Mamta Kulkarni, Varsha Usgaonkar and Deepak Shirke in important roles. The story revolves around patriotism, terrorism, national security and the determination of two brave officers to protect India.
The film is especially remembered for the powerful pairing of Raaj Kumar as Brigadier Suryadev Singh and Nana Patekar as Inspector Shivajirao Wagle. Their contrasting personalities and strong performances became one of the major attractions of the film.
The story begins when terrorist Pralayanath Gundaswamy kidnaps scientists with the intention of developing nuclear missiles and using them against India. At the same time, honest police officer DIG Rudrapratap Chauhan is murdered, leaving his son Sanjay as an important witness.
To stop the terrorist conspiracy, Brigadier Suryadev Singh is brought into the operation. He joins forces with Inspector Shivajirao Wagle, an honest but short-tempered police officer. Although the two men have very different personalities, their common commitment to the country brings them together.
As the investigation progresses, Suryadev and Wagle uncover a larger conspiracy involving powerful people and a planned attack on India. They race against time to locate the missing scientists, prevent the missile attack and bring Pralayanath's terrorist organization to an end.
Tirangaa is a strongly patriotic action drama built around national security, courage, duty and patriotism. Its biggest strength is the chemistry between Raaj Kumar's commanding Brigadier and Nana Patekar's fiery Inspector. The film combines action with emotional and patriotic moments, making it a memorable example of early-1990s Hindi patriotic cinema.
The film was also a blockbuster and became particularly popular for its memorable dialogues, action sequences and patriotic theme. Its music was composed by Laxmikant–Pyarelal, with lyrics by Santosh Anand.
