Khud-Daar (1982) is a Hindi action-drama film directed by Ravi Tandon and written by Kader Khan. The film stars Amitabh Bachchan, Sanjeev Kumar, Vinod Mehra, Parveen Babi, Tanuja, Bindiya Goswami, Prem Chopra and Mehmood in important roles. The story revolves around three brothers who are separated by circumstances and eventually find themselves connected through a dramatic courtroom confrontation.
Khud-Daar follows Hari Srivastav, who takes responsibility for his two younger half-brothers, Govind and Rajesh, after the death of their father. Hari travels to Bombay to pursue his legal career, leaving his brothers behind with his wife Seema.
Seema dislikes Govind and Rajesh and eventually throws them out of the house. The two brothers are forced to face life on their own. Govind, played by Amitabh Bachchan, refuses to depend on charity and instead chooses to work for his livelihood. Over time, he builds a new life while trying to support his younger brother Rajesh.
Meanwhile, the story develops around Bansi, a criminal involved in illegal activities, and his connection with legitimate businesses. Mary, played by Parveen Babi, is also connected to the film's underworld setting. As the brothers' lives take different directions, their paths eventually cross again in a courtroom.
The film's central emotional theme is brotherhood, self-respect, family separation and justice. The climax brings the three brothers together in an unusual situation: one is the accused, another is a witness for the prosecution and the third is the judge.
The film's music was composed by Rajesh Roshan, with lyrics by Majrooh Sultanpuri. The soundtrack and the strong performances of Amitabh Bachchan, Sanjeev Kumar and Vinod Mehra contributed to the film's popularity.
