About Lucky Ali

Lucky Ali was born on 19 September 1958 in Bangalore, Karnataka, India. His birth name is Maqsood Mahmood Ali, and he is the son of legendary Bollywood comedian and actor Mehmood. Growing up in a family connected to the Indian film industry, he was exposed to entertainment from an early age, but eventually developed his own musical identity. Ali began his music career with independent albums and gained major recognition with Sunoh in 1996. The album's success, particularly the song “O Sanam, helped establish him as a leading figure in India's Indi-pop movement. His natural vocal style, acoustic arrangements, and reflective lyrics distinguished him from mainstream playback singers. He later entered Bollywood playback singing and became popular for songs such as “Na Tum Jaano Na Hum and “Ek Pal Ka Jeena from Kaho Naa... Pyaar Hai (2000). He also sang memorable tracks such as “Jaane Kya Dhoondta Hai from Sur (2002), “Aahista Aahista from Bachna Ae Haseeno (2008), and “Safarnama from Tamasha (2015). Alongside singing, Lucky Ali has acted in films and composed music. His work continues to connect with audiences through its simplicity, emotional depth, and enduring melodies. In 2026, he reflected on his three-decade musical journey and released new music, continuing his contribution to Indian independent music.
