Resham Ki Dori is a Hindi family drama film directed by Atma Ram and produced by T. C. Dewan. The film stars Dharmendra as Ajit Singh/Vinod and Saira Banu as Anupama, with Kumud Chuggani, Sujit Kumar and Ramesh Deo in supporting roles. The film combines family relationships, sacrifice, social injustice and drama.
The story centers on Ajit and his younger sister Rajjo, who are orphaned at a young age. Ajit takes responsibility for his sister and makes great personal sacrifices to protect and provide for her. Their close sibling relationship forms the emotional foundation of the film.
The film's music was composed by the legendary duo Shankar–Jaikishan, with lyrics by Indeevar, Gopaldas Neeraj and Hasrat Jaipuri. The song “Behna Ne Bhai Ki Kalai Se Pyar Bandha Hai” became particularly associated with the film and its theme of brother-sister affection.
Resham Ki Dori follows Ajit Singh, an elder brother who dedicates his life to taking care of his younger sister Rajjo after they become orphans. As Rajjo grows up, Ajit works hard to give her a secure and respectable life, putting his own happiness and ambitions aside.
Ajit's life takes a tragic turn when he tries to protect his sister from exploitation. While defending her, a death occurs, and Ajit is subsequently imprisoned. After his release, he returns under the name Vinod, and the story follows his struggle to rebuild his life while dealing with the consequences of his past.
The film's strongest element is its portrayal of brother-sister love and sacrifice. Ajit's willingness to sacrifice his own life and freedom for his sister gives the story its emotional core. The film also touches on the difficult conditions faced by workers and the exploitation of people by those in positions of power.
The performances of Dharmendra and Saira Banu, combined with Shankar–Jaikishan's music, make Resham Ki Dori an emotional family drama of the 1970s. Its central message is about family responsibility, protection, sacrifice and the unbreakable bond between siblings.
