The film became widely appreciated for its bold subject, entertaining storytelling and thought-provoking message about faith, humanity and personal responsibility.
OMG – Oh My God! follows Kanji Lal Mehta, an atheist antique-shop owner whose shop is destroyed by an earthquake. When his insurance company refuses to compensate him because the earthquake is classified as an “act of God,” Kanji decides to take God to court.
Kanji files a legal case against God and the religious figures and institutions he believes are responsible for misleading people in the name of faith. His unusual lawsuit attracts widespread attention and creates a major debate about religion, belief and superstition.
During his struggle, Lord Krishna, portrayed by Akshay Kumar, appears in Kanji's life in human form and guides him through his journey. Rather than simply challenging faith, the film distinguishes between genuine spirituality and the exploitation of religious belief for personal profit.
The movie's central message is that faith should be based on understanding and humanity rather than fear, superstition or blind following. Through comedy and satire, OMG – Oh My God! explores questions about religion, God, morality and the role of religious institutions in society.
