Main Bhi Ladki Hoon tells the story of Rajni, a dusky and uneducated young woman who faces rejection and prejudice because of her appearance. Despite being kind-hearted and sincere, she is treated differently by people around her and is made to feel inferior because she does not fit society's conventional standards of beauty.
Rajni is married to Ram, the son of a wealthy family. Ram is a broad-minded and compassionate young man who values Rajni for her character and goodness rather than her appearance. However, a scheming relative creates suspicion within the family, putting Rajni's marriage and position in the household at risk.
The film's story focuses on colorism, social prejudice, family relationships and inner beauty. Through Rajni's struggles, the film presents the message that a person's worth should not be determined by physical appearance or social expectations. Meena Kumari's portrayal of Rajni and Dharmendra's performance as Ram form the emotional centre of the film.
The film was directed by A. C. Tirulokchandar and produced by Murugan Kumaran, M. Saravanan and M. Murugan. The music was composed by Chitragupta, with songs including “Chanda Se Hoga Woh Pyara,” “Krishna O Kale Krishna” and “Aaye The Huzoor Bade Tan Ke.”
