The story revolves around Dr. Sunil Mehra (Manoj Kumar), a young doctor who has completed his medical studies. After an unfortunate encounter with dacoits in the Himalayas, he is badly injured and is rescued by Phoolwa (Mala Sinha), a village woman who nurses him back to health. The two gradually fall in love.
However, their relationship faces complications because Phoolwa's father Lakhan Singh (Jayant) is a dacoit. Sunil also has an existing engagement with Dr. Neeta Verma (Shashikala), creating another emotional conflict in his life.
Sunil eventually returns to the city but decides that he wants to dedicate his medical knowledge to people living in remote Himalayan villages. He goes back to the mountains to provide medical care to villagers who have very limited access to modern treatment.
The villagers initially distrust Sunil because they are accustomed to traditional healers and do not readily accept modern medicines. At the same time, Lakhan Singh repeatedly creates difficulties for the doctor.
Sunil's family becomes concerned about his decision to remain in the remote area and sends his fiancée Neeta to bring him back. Sunil asks Neeta, who is also a doctor, to stay and help him with his work. However, Neeta finds village life difficult and eventually returns to the city.
Sunil remains determined to serve the villagers. Through his dedication, compassion and medical service, he gradually earns their trust and respect. Even Lakhan Singh eventually recognizes Sunil's sincerity and comes to his aid.
The film ultimately presents a message about selfless service, love, dedication and the importance of bringing healthcare to people living in remote areas.
