Priya Saraiya, born Priya Panchal on 19 November 1984, is an Indian playback singer, lyricist and songwriter associated with Hindi and Gujarati music. She is particularly known for combining her work as a vocalist and lyricist, and has written several popular contemporary Hindi film songs.
Her well-known lyric-writing credits include “Saibo” from Shor in the City, “Jeena Jeena” from Badlapur, “Sun Saathiya” from ABCD 2, “Jeene Laga Hoon” from Ramaiya Vastavaiya, “Piya O Re Piya” from Tere Naal Love Ho Gaya, “Jaise Mera Tu” from Happy Ending and “Valam” from Made in China.
Priya Saraiya was born in Mumbai, Maharashtra, on 19 November 1984. She developed an interest in music at a very young age and began singing when she was around six years old. She received training in Hindustani classical vocal music from Gandharva Mahavidyalaya in Mumbai and also trained in Western music through the Mumbai branch of Trinity College of Music, London.
As a child artist, Priya travelled with the Kalyanji-Anandji Little Wonders/Little Stars troupe, performing in live shows in India and abroad. This early exposure to stage performance helped develop her skills as a singer and performer.
Priya also developed an interest in writing during her school years. She maintained a personal diary in which she wrote her thoughts and early poetry. Her transition into professional film songwriting came through her association with the composer duo Sachin–Jigar, who were looking for a fresh lyrical voice for F.A.L.T.U. around 2010.
Her early film lyric-writing credits include songs from F.A.L.T.U. (2011) and Shor in the City (2011). The song “Saibo”, written by Priya along with Sameer, became one of her early widely recognised successes.
She continued writing for Hindi films and became particularly recognised for romantic and emotionally expressive songs. Her lyrics for “Jeena Jeena” from Badlapur and “Sun Saathiya” from ABCD 2 further established her as a prominent contemporary female lyricist.
Priya has also worked as a playback singer. “Sun Saathiya”, performed by Priya Saraiya and Divya Kumar, became one of the best-known songs from ABCD 2. Her singing performance earned her a Filmfare Award nomination for Best Female Playback Singer.
Her work extends beyond Hindi cinema into Gujarati music and independent music. She has released songs as a singer, composer and lyricist and continues to perform live. Apple Music currently lists releases by Priya Saraiya through 2026, including music associated with Vaarso Season 4.
Priya is married to Jigar Saraiya, of the composer duo Sachin–Jigar. Their personal and professional association has also resulted in numerous musical collaborations.
